Botulinum toxin is a neuro-inhibiting agent, used for cosmetic purposes for the reduction of fine lines and wrinkles. It works by inhibiting the nerve pathway that causes muscles to contract. It can help reduce static fine lines and the dynamic lines that are present on movement. Cosmetically it is used on various muscles in the face, depending on what the client wishes.
The effects can take up to 2 weeks to appear, and last up to 3-4 months depending on lifestyle.
Be mindful that everyone is different in facial presentation, lifestyle and muscle metabolism, so doses of product, and effect may vary. This is why our 2 week review appointment is necessary to check results
As with any injectable treatment, they may be some discomfort. A topical ( on the skin) numbing agent will be applied prior to the procedure, to help reduce discomfort. I can also guide you through breathing techniques to aid your comfort.
You will start to notice differences within a week after treatment, and a review appointment is advised at 2 weeks post treatment to check how the product has worked for you. At this stage I may need to make adjustments.
The product will then last between 3 to 4 months depending on lifestyle and self care. We can discuss a plan of treatment at consultation stage.
A list of contraindications to this treatment will be discussed with your practitioner prior to appointment. These will also be discussed during consultation along with a medical questionnaire.
These treatments may cause mild , localised swelling,which will calm within a few hours. Bruising may also occur as the target injection point is the muscle, which lays under the dermis, and this is a vascular area. This is nothing to worry about, and a cold compress may be applied to this area. I will guide you on how to reduce any signs of bruising. In the unlikely event of discomfort, paracetamol may be taken (ibuprofen may increase bruising). If erythema (redness) persists then an antihistamine may be taken - contact me for advice 07890182919
