Dermaplaning Treatments - Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT IS DERMAPLANING?

Derma planing is the process of removal of villus hair (peach fuzz), and dead skin cells from the facial area, using a sharp blade such as a scalpel. This results in a healthier skin, that can absorb products better, and present a more radiant glow. Skin is thoroughly cleansed prior to treatment, and a soothing mask is applied prior to application of toner, serum, moisturiser and SPF.

MYTH BUSTER: villus (peach fuzz) hair will not grow back thicker or darker. If this were to happen then we would need to investigate a hair removal system for terminal hair ( this is the hair type that is found on our head, underarms, etc, and will be identified during your consultation.

WILL IT HURT?

This treatment is a pain free procedure, but one may feel an odd sensation as the gliding hair removal happens around certain areas ie, top lip. Occasionally, some skin irritation may occur but I will provide soothing aftercare treatment to prevent this.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?

Skin cell renewal can be around 28 days (increasing as we get older) so I advise a monthly treatment, or as you decide that you feel necessary

ARE THERE ANY REASONS I CANT HAVE THE TREATMENT?

A list of contraindications to this treatment will be discussed with your practitioner prior to appointment. These will also be discussed during consultation along with a medical questionnaire.

IS THERE ANY DOWNTIME OR POSSIBLE COMPLICATIONS?

These treatments may cause mild erythema (redness) which will calm within a few hours. In the unlikely event of discomfort, paracetamol may be taken (ibuprofen may increase bruising). If erythema (redness) persists then an antihistamine may be taken - contact me for advice 07890182919

Very rarely there may be areas of bruising around the more delicate areas, where a cold compress may be applied.

Using aseptic techniques will help prevent any risks of infection. If any concerns of infection please contact me - 07890182919.

AFTERCARE AND ADVICE

Very rarely, these treatments may cause mild erythema (redness) which will calm within a few hours. To assist healing I advise:

WEAR A HIGH SPF (AT LEAST 30 -50) EVERYDAY
Avoid touching the area for 6 hours
Avoid make up for 12 hours
Avoid glycolic, retinol, vitamin C, salicylic ingredients 3 days pre and post treatment
Avoid excessive heat or hot showers for 24 hours
Avoid direct sunlight and NO SUNBEDS
Avoid chlorinated swimming pools/ hot tubs for 5 days
Avoid other skin treatments for a minimum of 2 weeks
Clean make up brushes and sponges regularly
Change pillowcases often as sweat and dead skin cells harbour bacteria
Be mindful of using computers and phones, and then touching your face

I’ve never had a lymphatic massage before, but if I was able, I would book every week without fail, an hour of having your face neck and head massaged with the most relaxing smelling oils and expertise carried out by Linda is truly simply divine, I shall be booking again without fail, I’ve truly never received such a massage in all my life.
